A Vision in the Vosges
In the 1870s, Charles Cartier-Breson arrived in Celles-sur-Plaine with more than ambition, he brought industry, innovation, and a dream of building something lasting.
A Château Rises, A community Grows
By 1875, the Cartier-Bresson family home, an elegant château overlooking both the Plaine river as well as the factory site, was completed. It stood not only as a refined residence, but as a beacon of progress beside the cotton mill that powered the village's transformation.
An Enduring Heritage
Electric light before most cities, a private tramway, and a growing village, what began here became a model for rural industrial success. Today the château remains as a symbol of that legacy.
